Nexus 5 hands-on video leaked online

A hands-on review of Google’s upcoming Nexus 5 has appeared online, showcasing the handset itself and much of Android 4.4 KitKat.
The footage comes via Android Central and is one of the most revealing leaks we’ve seen thus far. Google is reportedly launching the handset this month, although the search giant has yet to confirm a concrete launch date.
Some reports claim the Nexus 5 could launch as early as tomorrow, while others point to a reveal on the 31st.
The Nexus 5 will feature a 5-inch Full HD 1080p display, 2GB of RAM and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 chipset. Storage is believed to come in two varieties – 16GB and 32GB – and SD-support is, as always, highly unlikely.
Android 4.4 KitKat is tipped to add in a few UX changes and plenty of back-end stuff designed to make Google’s mobile platform even more robust. Expect to also see updates to Google Now and the inclusion of new Google-branded applications like Google Experience Launcher.

Nexus 5 leak-fest surfaces online

Images of the upcoming Google Nexus 5 running Android 4.4 KitKat have appeared on an Italian Android blog ahead of next week’s big reveal. The images, however, are very blurry and sort of look like the Nexus 4.
Plus, we had to run the website through Google translate, and on a Friday that’s not fun. In the leak we’re treated to some pretty awful shots of the Nexus 5 running Android KitKat –– check those out below.
Google Cloud Print and Tap & Pay are two new aspects of Android 4.4 that are visible in the images and it appears as if the icons in the notifications area are now white.
The source of the images –– TuttoAndroid –– says the Nexus 5 is a little bigger than the Nexus 4 but is still very lightweight. Leaks suggest the Nexus 5 will feature a 5-inch display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, and an 8-megapixel camera, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB & 32GB of storage but no SD-support.
The Nexus 5 is expected to launch on October 15 alongside Android KatKat.

Case maker leaks picture of Nexus 5 while Google Launchpad reps claim October 15 release

Smartphone case maker SPIGEN has leaked a photo of the Nexus 5 wearing a distinctly "champagne gold" coloured case, in-line with the current trend. The manufacturer makes no bones about the fact this is a Nexus 5, proudly including the name on the picture and in hashtags on Google+.
But really, it's just nice to see more snaps of the Nexus 5's matte-look back panel and funky camera port. According to rumours the phone will sport an 8-megapixel sensor with optical image stabilisation.
SPIGEN has re-iterated in previous posts the rumoured October 31 launch date for the Nexus 5.
However, the other piece of hot Nexus 5 action today, is some info courtesy of the Google Launchpad devs. Google Launchpad is described as a "two-week boot camp" for businesses and start-ups with assistance from Google's "Google for Entrepreneurs" initiative.
According to TechManiacs.gr, Google reps at a Google Launchpad event spoke to some people from Greeceandroid.gr, saying that Android 4.4 and the Nexus 5 will launch on October 15. They allegedly added the handset would be priced around 300 euros.
It's not possible to verify the rumour, and it does have that "my mate's auntie's neighbour said..." thing going on, but still, interesting stuff nonetheless.

Nexus 5 battery packs leak from FCC certification - appear to confirm two different capacities

Pictures have leaked online showing what's reported to be the Nexus 5's battery.
That should be batteres, actually, as the photos are said to come from the phone's FCC certification and show both an LG-BL-T7 pack and one labelled BL-T9. This is signficant because it chimes with earlier reports of two battery variants.
The LG BL-T7 battery is the "stepped" variety we've seen used previously in the LG G2 and is rated at 3,000mAh while the BL-T9 is a smaller, non-stepped unit apparently rated at 2,300mAh.
Again this sits with the earlier rumour which said the 16GB Nexus 5 would carry a 2,300 pack for $299 while the 32GB model would have the 3,000mAh unit for $399

Nexus 5 system info screens confirm specs

Screenshots have leaked online taken from a Nexus 5 running Android 4.4 KitKat and show the system info menu confirming previously rumoured specs.
The snaps confirm the 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with an Adreno 330 GPU and 2GB of RAM in tow. Also seen is the 16GB of storage space listed for the base model and of particular note is the fact that just over 12GB is accessible by the user, meaning Android 4.4 takes up a little less than 4GB of space.
A listed 3264x2449 pixel resolution for the camera confirms an 8-megapixel sensor. There isn't any way of confirming other rumoured camera features such as optical image stabilisation at this point.
Likewise the display is listed with a 1776x1080 pixel resolution at 442 pixels-per-inch (ppi). AsPhoneArena points out, taking into account the portion of the screen allocated to the software controls this would indicate a 5-inch display size.

Nexus 5 pricing leaks - shows different storage models will have different battery capacity and price

Leaked information suggests a pricing scheme for the Nexus 5 which will not only be based around how much onboard storage a model has, but also its battery size.
The word comes via PhoneArena's anonymous tipster, making it difficult to ascertain the authenticity of the information, so do approach it, as we are, with a degree of caution.
The base model, according to the tip, will have 16GB of onboard storage and a 2,300mAh battery pack for $299 US (£186) while the 32GB model is powered by a 3,000mAh unit for $399 (£248).
That means both devices have a bigger battery pack than the Nexus 4's 2,100mAh, which is sure to please plenty of people.
Bear in mind that, while we've provided the converted UK currency it's quite normal for such prices to translate directly into British pounds sterling, so we'd actually expect the 16GB to be £299 in the UK and the 32GB £399, though we'd be happy if we were proven wrong.

Nexus 5 service manual confirms specs and design

service manual has leaked for the LG-D821, a codename associated closely with the much-rumoured Nexus 5. The photos, diagrams and listed specs inside the document all match up neatly with previous leaks and rumours for Google’s next Nexus handset.
According to the manual, the Nexus 5 will pack a 4.95-inch full HD 1080p IPS LCD touch display on the front. Inside is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz with an Adreo 330 graphics processing unit (GPU) and 2GB of RAM. Storage options include either 16GB or 32GB and, being a Nexus device, there’s no sign of a card slot. Sorry folks.
Camera tech includes a 1.3-megapixel front-facing secondary and  an 8-megapixel primary on the rear, complete with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and an LED flash. The battery is rated at 2,300mAh and, as expected, connectivity includes 3G and 4G LTE, as well as NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB and wireless charging.
Of course the software is Android 4.4 KitKat and the phone will include a notification LED. The supported SIM stype is microSIM.

Nexus 5 will be half the price of iPhone 5S

Google’s upcoming Nexus 5 handset will be marketed at around half the price of the iPhone 5S, according to reports.
The Nexus 4 was cheap –– cheap as chips in fact –– and its 2013 successor, said to be based on the LG G2, is expected to follow suit as well as add in a full HD 1080p display, LTE and a new processor.
TechRadar says a "source familiar with Google" has told the site that the successor to the popular but LTE-less Nexus 4 will ship in the latter part of October and cost "half the price" of the iPhone 5S.
If so –– that’s a quite a deal. The Nexus 5 is expected to feature a Snapdragon 800 CPU, 2GB of RAM, a full HD 1080p display and, of course, run Android 4.4 KitKat.

Nexus 5 to feature MEMS camera tech?

Google's much-rumoured Nexus 5 could be the first smartphone to implement MEMS camera technology for its 8-megapixel imaging hardware.
"What the heck is MEMS?" you might understandably ask.
Well, MEMS stands for micro electro mechanical sensor and it's a technology which is capable of extremely fast autofocus (seven times quicker than current solutions) and multishot, but importantly also offers Lytro camera style functionality where it captures and stores so much visual information that you can snap an image and edit whatever focal point you wish later.
So what's the evidence for MEMS tech sitting inside the as-yet unofficial Nexus 5? The word comes via AndroidWorld.it, which has access to a set of data logs reportedly farmed from a Nexus 5 handset.
The data confirms the Nexus 5 will have an 8-megapixel back-illuminated sensor (BSI) with an f/2.4 aperture and a 1/3.2-inch sensor size. So far, so fairly average. However, the details also show an IMX179 sensor model, which is the MEMS sensor manufactured by Digital Optics.
That technology was demonstrated to Engadget at MWC 2013 in February and there's a video showcasing what it can do and how it works.

Nexus 5 leaks AGAIN: “feels like the Nexus 7”

Yet another shot of the Google Nexus 5 has leaked online ahead of this month’s big reveal. In today’s leak we’re treated to a shot of the back of the Nexus 5 and some more details about the type of specifications it will feature.
This particular leak comes via "weespeed" –– a member of the MacRumors forum –– who claims to have had hands on time with the Nexus 5. As you can see in the image, the Nexus 5 looks identical to previously leaked shots of the device with the “Nexus” branding and matte finish.
“The forum poster mentioned that he was able to hold the device, that it is smaller than the G2, and feels a lot like the Nexus 7. He also mentioned that the display is just ‘okay’ and not as good as the Galaxy Note 3’s, but that it did have small bezels,” according to Droid Life.
A leak from this weekend also gave us a pretty solid indication of the type of spec we’re likely to see inside the Nexus 5 once it’s unveiled later this month:
  • Display:  5-inch Full HD display, 442 ppi (potentially 4.97-inch)
  • Processor:  2.3GHz Qualcomm Snadragon 800
  • RAM:  2GB
  • Internal Storage:  16GB (could be another model too, this is what was in the log)
  • Camera (rear):  8MP (no idea if it has OIS like the LG G2 camera)
  • Camera (front):  1.2MP
  • Sensors:  accelerometer, magnetometer, gyroscope, proximity, light, barometer, orientation
  • Battery:  2300mAh (via FCC) and wireless charging
  • Other:  LTE, NFC
  • Model:  LG-D820
